Using simple, easily-replicated GreenSmart principles, this stylish passive solar home seamlessly integrates sustainable features to address energy, water, materials, universal access and thermal performance concerns. The end result is a 6 star energy rated display home that goes beyond the mandated NSW BASIX requirements.

This high rating was achieved through a design that takes advantage of natural lighting, the prevailing winds and passive solar heating in winter. The home also incorporates a range of energy efficient products and materials, including effective insulation for the Newcastle climate, a solar hot water system, energy efficiency glazing and LED lighting throughout and a meter to track electricity use.

To assist in saving water the home also contains water efficient tap ware, shower roses and toilet cisterns and a 4000 litre rain water tank. Better indoor air quality is addressed with the use of low VOC paint and adhesives.
