National Construction Code - What is it?
From 2011, there will be a new National Construction Code published by the Australian Building Codes Board which incorporate BCA 2011 Volumes 1 and 2, along with a new Plumbing Code of Australia.

Expansion of NSW Housing Code (NSW/Hunter/Sthn NSW)
The NSW Government will introduce changes to the NSW Housing Code from 25 February 2011 which allows new development types to be complying development and makes changes to some existing requirements. Detached houses on lots less than 450sqm will now be permitted, along with rural dwellings.

BASIX, Development Application Fees and Compliance Cost Notices (NSW)
(Changes to the Environmental Planning & Assessment (EP&A) Regulation will be made on 25 February 2011 to introduce some new fees and to amend some existing fees and processes. Members should take time to review these changes as they will apply to any application made on or after 25 February to council so that you can advise your customers of all relevant fees.

Electrical installations – licensing requirements (Nat)
All Australian states require all electrical work to be preformed by a licensed electrician and to comply with AS/NZS 3000 – Wiring Rules. This includes removing and re-installing a socket outlet. However, all states offer restricted licence classes to trades other than electricians

NSW Housing Code Q&A (NSW/Hunter/ACT-Sthn NSW)
In December 2008, the NSW Government, as part of its ongoing planning reforms, released State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008 (the Code). The Code outlines how residential developments, including detached single and two storey dwellings, renovations and additions to existing dwellings and other ancillary developments, on lots 450m2 and greater, can be approved as complying development by council or an accredited (private) certifier in a little as 10 days.

NSW Housing Code Factsheet (NSW/Hunter/Sthn NSW)
The NSW Government has released a new State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP) which will allow single and two storey houses, alterations and additions and a range of other building work to be approved as complying development. New rules have also been included for minor building work to be exempt development.
