Red Tape Reduction
The housing industry is suffering from compliance overload, which is having a significant impact on the structure and future of the industry.
With a softening of building activity and acute competition, the capacity for HIA members to pass on the costs of compliance is reduced. Compliance has squeezed profit margins so tightly that many builder and contractor members cannot afford to employ an apprentice.
It is not just the dollars where the compliance burden is overwhelming. There is the additional stress that keeping up with additional compliance measures places on members personal lives.
Red tape and the growing compliance burden are making it harder for our members to stay in the industry, many of whom feel they are working for governments and not for themselves.
The answer does not lay in additional regulation.
HIA is committed to reducing the red tape burden faced by our members. In this section HIA members can access news and information on HIA polices relating to red tape reduction, plus information on HIA’s lobbying campaigns, media releases and opinion pieces relating to reducing the regulation on our members.
