WA housing supply squeeze fuels inflation
Inflation figures released today for the September 2006 quarter showed a 0.9 per increase in the headline Consumer Price Index, taking the annual rate down from 4.0 per cent to 3.9 per cent. More importantly the Reserve Bank’s weighted median index increased from 3 per cent in the June quarter to 3.2 per cent, above the RBA’s target band of 2 – 3 per cent, signalling that a rate rise is imminent.

WA Housing Affordability Falls to a Record Low
The much needed recovery in housing affordability has fallen into a black hole. The combination of a second interest rate rise in August and robust house prices has sent housing affordability back down to a 3 year low and not far from the bad old days of the late 1990’s when mortgage interest rates reached 17 per cent.

WA Workers Compensation payments should be removed
The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has called on the Carpenter Government to exempt employers of apprentices from Workers Compensation levies effective immediately and fund payments through revenues obtained from Stamp Duty transactions on property purchases.
