Darryn Parkinson from ’your abode’ recently completed his first accredited GreenSmart Home at Collaroy Plateau in the Northern Beaches. The new home displays a range of sustainable features including solar photovoltaics to generate electricity for the occupants and a grey water system which recycles grey water for re-use in the toilets, washing machine and external taps. A 24,000 litre rainwater tank provides a constant supply of water to the home and swimming pool which makes this home self-sufficient without the need to rely on the mains water supply. High thermal mass, through the use of reverse brick veneer walls and an exposed concrete floor, provides passive winter warming. Also, low VOC paints and finishes, along with recycled materials and much more make this home unique.
