Guide to Registration for Demolishers (Vic)
HIA has sought information from the Building Practitioners Board (BPB) regarding the essential information requirements to assist members in preparing an application for registration as a demolisher.
As demolition is a separate registration category under the BPB those carrying out demolition must be registered in either the low rise BD-L, medium rise BD-M or unlimited BD-U category.
When applying for registration you are required to complete the BPB application form providing information regarding your personal details, registration with professional bodies (i.e. HIA) any relevant qualifications you may have, photo ID and a current insurance certificate. Demolishers require public liability insurance.
You must also attach the following information to your application:

Resume -
A resume describing your knowledge and experience. Provide details of what your role and duties were on particular jobs.

References

Two technical references from Registered Building Practitioners or Registered Architects that you have been involved with outlining your roles and responsibilities and two character references outlining personal characteristics. This can be from a former client.

Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) qualification -
This should be at a level above RED
CARD
, generally a Certificate
III
level will be required. HIA offers a Safety Officers course that will satisfy these requirements. Basically you will need to know about Safe Work Method Statements and protective measures for public health etc.

First Aid -
This should be at level 2

Certificate of Competency (operation and machinery)

Knowledge of this Certificate is required, you must use someone who has this certificate when using and operating machinery

Erecting scaffolding -
General Knowledge is required. Basically you will need to know that an unlicensed person can erect scaffold to 4m and over that height it is required to use a licensed person.

Removing asbestos

General Knowledge is required. You will need to know what the requirements and limitations are when removing asbestos. WorkSafe
