Guide to registration: reblockers and subfloor licensing (Vic)
Background
This infosheet is to be used with the Victorian Building Practitioner Board’s information sheet titled ‘Domestic Builder’. We have summarised the relevant limited classes:
Qualifications
-
There is no formal qualifications necessary for Re-blockers and Sub-floor Works registration, so you will need to be able to demonstrate to the Board that you have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience.
-
If you do not have the required skills then consider undertaking some or all of the subjects listed in the HIA Certificate IV in Building & Construction Management (Domestic).
-
There is no need to undertake a course if you believe you have the knowledge and skills the Board is seeking or if you can show prior learning and competency.
Understanding Contracts
-
You should be familiar with the HIA Small Works Contract (where no foundation data is required) and know how to complete and administer this document. This contract complies with the legislation and hence is suitable for works over $5,000. The Board will expect you to know and understand such contracts even if you rarely do work over $5000.00.
WorkSafe
-
Occupational Health and Safety is another area where you will need to demonstrate your knowledge to the Board.
-
If you have not already completed or enrolled in an OH&S induction course (Red Card) then contact HIA immediately as WorkSafe requires that everyone who enters a building site to have completed the required safety training.
Complete the Board’s Application Form
-
It is recommended in Part ‘A” you apply for Limited Class J (sub floor works) as well as Class X as long as you intend to do work below $12,000.
-
Part D requires that you list domestic works you have been involved in, whether as an employee, sub-contractor or self-employed to demonstrate your experience.
-
Applicable fee for a new limited registration is $540 according to fee schedule in Part J.
Board Interview
-
The Board will most likely interview you so be prepared to have the “essential information” as listed on the last page of the Domestic Builder information sheet.
-
Contact the Building Practitioners Board on 1300 360 320 for further information or clarification on the new requirements for registration.
