Hat trick of wins for Hunter in HIA awards

Hunter, one of the smaller Housing Industry Association regions, had a gala night at the annual HIA awards, picking up three awards in the national titles in Brisbane this evening. (Sat May 6)

The Hunter HIA Australian Housing Award winners are:

HIA-COLORBOND steel Most Innovative Use of Steel: Nexgen Constructions.

Nexgen used the material in an unusual and interesting way, both internally and externally, judges said. “The results are simple and clean details and lines, highlighting the great properties of this material.”

HIA-Termimesh Australian Jim Brookes Apprentice of the Year: Chris Bateman.

While acknowledging the choice was a difficult one, judges said Chris, a second-year painting and decorating apprentice, is articulate and on the ball when it comes to his knowledge of the industry.

HIA-Corinthian Doors Australian Jim Sweeney Industry Innovation Award: Stairmate by Fallstop.

Stairmate is a temporary floor-to-floor access system for use on building projects. It is described by the judges as an innovative and extremely clever idea.

The awards were made in front of a gala audience at Brisbane ’s Convention Centre, described by HIA Managing Director Ron Silberberg as one of the premier events on the Australian building industry calendar.

HIA is Australia ’s peak building industry body, representing 40,000 builders, suppliers and trade contractors in all states and territories. The industry is responsible for development projects, new homes, and renovation activity worth nearly $50 billion each year, and employs more than 350,000 people.

The association’s awards acknowledge excellence in housing construction, design, innovation and technology and recognise the talent of builders and building companies involved in the planning and construction of quality housing.
