Building Business Success (Series #1 of Business Edge)
Managing your business paperwork and cash flow can be a challenge, especially in the building industry.
Have you ever wished you
- Could get help not just with respect to “what” to do but also “how” to do it?
- Had standard templates for letters and notices (eg letters of demand, notices of suspension)?
- Had checklists to help you keep track of your work processes (eg steps to follow for preliminary agreements)?
Now you can . . . by attending one of HIA's "Workshop for Building Business Success".
You've seen the "Guide to Building Business Success", and now you have the background information to the basics in relation to business structures, building business regulations, registrations and business practices and how to better manage your building business paperwork and cash flow.
Now it's time to see how the theory can be put into practice.
The workshop is a 3 hour interactive session and consists of:
- 1st hour – a quick overview relating to business structures and building business registrations, regulations and suggested business practices & practical considerations in relation to these topics;
- 2nd hour – considering a case study working through typical paperwork issues commonly encountered by our members during the performance of residential construction work, with an emphasis on contract administration and related paperwork; and
- 3rd hour – revisiting the case study but from a cash book & cash flow perspective. In particular it will be showing:
- how to calculate the builder’s margin;
- cash book entries for all of the transactions;
- the ease of using a simple Excel spreadsheet with formulae (provided on CD Rom) and the simple transition from a manual spreadsheet to an electronic spreadsheet;
- transposing the columns (cross-referenced to the various components of the BAS statement) to the GST calculation sheet and BAS statement; and
- how poor paperwork affects cash flow (again, referring back to the case study).
When you attend a workshop, you will be provided with the following materials:
- Guide to Building Business Success;
- Workbook to Building Business Success (which includes a cashbook); and
- CD Rom of templates, references and forms referred to in the workshop.
