WA HIA Safety Services Advisor Appointed
HIA WA recently welcomed the appointment of Andy Stowell to the position of Safety Services Advisor to the WA region membership.
Andy brings a wealth of experience to the role having worked in the building and construction industry over many years.
Andy is a qualified Cabinetmaker, gained his trade papers in England, he also has a Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery. Until 1996, Andy worked as a carpenter, maintenance carpenter and shopfitter throughout England and Europe. During this period, Andy also managed his own Kitchen Manufacturing installation business, which encompassed all facets of the allied trades.
In 1996, Andy moved to Western Australia.
Between 1996 and 2001, Andy worked as a self employed carpenter on various projects throughout Western Australia including heritage buildings in the Guildford area, and luxury homes in the East Perth Redevelopment precinct.
Andy then spent 5 years imparting his knowledge to students at Swan TAFE Campus lecturing in the carpentry trade, before moving to Worksafe as an inspector in the Construction and Primary Industries sector for two years.
Andy joins HIA in the role of Safety Services Advisor. He will, as part of his role:
- Provide on-site OH & S services to HIA members in the manufacturing, fabrication and building areas.
- Provide timely and adequate support to HIA’s Apprenticeship Scheme and host employers.
- Develop OH & S products for use by members.
- Assist in the development and delivery of training programs for members.
- Assist members with the development of Safe Work Method Statements, Job Safety Analysis and Safety Management Plans.
