A company from HIA’s ACT/Southern NSW region was honoured at the Housing Industry of Australia-CSR Australian Housing Awards in Brisbane today.
Today’s Homes and Lifestyle, founded in 2001, was named the 2009 HIA Insurance Services Australian Professional Small/Medium Builder of the Year.
The business, based in Canberra, is a joint venture between father and son team Peter and Brendan McCoullough. The combination of youth, enthusiasm and wisdom has proved a successful one, and in just eight years it has become a multi-award winner, winning more than 15 awards.
The company prides itself on originality, having never built the same home twice. Rather than competing in the high volume, low margin housing market, Today’s Homes and Lifestyle values quality, innovation, flexibility of service, on-time delivery, superior design, and efficient, sustainable building practices.
Playing a pivotal role in maintaining the company is a team of nine staff, 30 contractors and valued input from specialist advisors.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd attended the awards luncheon at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and praised the exceptional quality of the award entries.
Congratulating Today’s Homes and Lifestyle, HIA Managing Director Ron Silberberg said, “This year’s HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards are a testament to the strength and resilience of the Australian housing industry.
“Once again, entries were of an exceptional standard and highlight the enormous talent and versatility of the best in the business.”
HIA is Australia’s peak building industry body, representing 40,000 builders, suppliers and trade contractors in all states and territories. The industry is responsible for development projects, new homes and renovation activity worth about $50 billion each year and employs more than 350,000 people.
The association’s awards acknowledge excellence in housing construction, design, innovation and technology, recognising the talent of builders and building companies involved in the planning and construction of quality housing.
