Welcome to the HIA Hunter Region e-newsletter.

 

After eight months establishing the new HIA Home Ideas Centre, Steve Jeffries has returned to the role of Executive Director of the HIA Hunter Region. Tim Mohr has moved to Sydney as HIA National Executive Director responsible for Occupational Health and Safety matters.

Renee Moffatt has been promoted to Centre Manager and will be responsible for the daily operations of the HIA Home Ideas Centre. The building and fit out have been completed and the staff are now in the premises. Exhibitors are busy building and installing outstanding displays of building products and ideas to assist home owners and renovators with their selections.

Steve, Renee and exhibitors are working towards the opening of the HIA Home Ideas Centre on Saturday 19 July 2008. Some Display Sites are still available so if you want to have your product or services on display, call Renee on 4014 2000.

HIA / CSR HUNTER HOUSING AWARDS - ENTRIES EXTENDED!
Entries are still being accepted until June 13 including Apprentice of the Year, Business Partner Nominations and our NEW COMMERCIAL CATEGORY. Make sure you get that special project the recognition it deserves. Call Sue on 02 4014 2000 for entry details.

 

NSW HOUSING CODE WORKSHOPS
The first series of complying development codes which forms part of the NSW Housing Code was recently released. HIA are working closely with the Government to ensure that the codes are workable for our members. Codes for single storey dwellings and alterations and additions on lots >600sqm are currently on exhibition until 4 July. The Department of Planning are providing briefing sessions for industry and the public throughout NSW including Newcastle over the coming weeks. Click here for more information

COMING SOON - MEMBER CONNECT
HIA is inviting members to place advertisements on Member Connect, an on-line bulletin board linking members to other members and the public through hia.com.au Member Connect allows a member to post an on-line advertisement (including photographs) in three categories: For Sale, Jobs and Wanted. Items that can be advertised on Member Connect can include power tools or equipment for sale or wanted, second-hand vehicles, building materials and products as well as positions vacant or wanted. PROPOSED CHANGES TO MARGIN SCHEME
Changes to the GST Margin scheme affecting land sales was announced in the recent Federal Budget. The amendments will apply prospectively - that is, they will not apply to land where a contract of sale was signed, or supply occurred, prior to the proposed amendment which will be introduced into Parliament in June 2008.
