New safety rules for construction work are in force in Victoria from 01 July 2008 .

Recognition of HIA Induction Cards

WorkSafe has confirmed that HIA 'yellow' and ‘red’ cards issued in Victoria upon successful completion of the Victorian Foundations for Safety construction industry basic OH&S induction course will be recognised as evidence of Construction Induction training under the new construction regulations.

 

This means that if your HIA induction card is uniquely numbered and has the Foundations for Safety logo shown below, the card is legally valid in Victoria provided it did not automatically expire because you did not carry out construction work over any past two consecutive years.

New Urban Growth Zone

 

An amendment to all planning schemes last week introduced a new Urban Growth Zone to facilitate rezoning of land in growth areas to assist in the transition from non-urban to urban land. The key to this new zone is that precinct structure plans will be required to permit urban developments to proceed. For further information click here.

 

Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2007 Review

 

Aboriginal Affairs Victoria, as promised during consultation last yea,r has announced a review of the Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2007. HIA is currently developing a submission to the review and would be interested in any comments and experiences members have had regarding the Regulations and the Act. In particular HIA is interested in understanding member experiences regarding triggers for aboriginal heritage assessment, developing cultural heritage management plans and fees amongst others.
