HIA Royal Wolf Professional Development Series
HIA, in partnership with Royal Wolf, is pleased to offer a Professional Development Series to keep you up-to-date on industry issues. Sessions provide a convenient opportunity to upskill. In some states, you can attend to meet your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.* Take this time to learn a range of skills and come out the other side equipped with knowledge.
Commencing June, the series offers up to eight online events, delivered virtually one to two per week (Tuesday’s 8am-9am and Thursday’s 4pm-5pm) over 4 weeks.
You can choose to attend all sessions or select from:
Why Use Contracts
Using written contracts is critical to any business. You will gain an appreciation of why using written residential building contracts is not only necessary to comply with the law but also to protect the builder.
Basic Contract Administration
You will learn about the basics of administering the HIA Plain Language Residential Building Contract.
Tasmanian Building Legislation (Tasmania Only)
You will learn about the different legislation that applies to residential builders and the key requirements imposed on their business.
Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) – 5’P of Safe Excavation
After the session, you will be able to register as a user of DBYD, conduct a search of their nominated worksite, review the plans that have emailed to them from the DBYD members and prepare to conduct safe excavation activities on their worksite.
Dealing with Difficult Clients
A difficult client can make a home building project unprofitable or even result in illegal building work. You will learn about how to minimise the risk of signing a contract with a difficult client and what can be done to manage a difficult client if building works are underway.
Creating Mentally Healthy Workplaces
This session will increase understanding, raise awareness of possible risks and provide some basic practical strategies to maintain mental health and wellbeing, for the business and the individual.
Employee or Independent Contractor
You will gain an understanding of the difference between an employee and a contractor and why it matters.
You will learn about the ways to avoid disputes and the different methods of dispute resolution available to resolve residential building contract disputes. This includes negotiation, mediation, adjudication and litigation.
Take this time to learn a range of skills and come out the other side equipped with knowledge.
*CPD points are subject to individual state requirements. Once you have registered a link to access the event will be sent to your email prior to event commencement. For Tasmanian members, this series is subsidised by the Tasmanian Building & Construction Industry Training Board (TBCITB) and free of charge.
