Domestic Building Insurance
The Victorian Government announced a number of changes to the state’s Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) arrangements. The changes are intended to streamline the DBI process and enable builders to obtain Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) issued DBI certificates directly through appointed distributors.
The changes will commence on 1 July this year.
While the DBI product will remain the same, it will be issued through a small number of VMIA approved distributors. HIA Insurance Services (HIAIS) is one of six VMIA appointed distributors under the new arrangements.
HIAIS has delivered DBI certificates to Victorian builders for over two decades and will continue to do so after 1 July. As a HIA member, you can be assured that the team at HIAIS will assist and support you through the transition process and beyond.
HIA will be providing further information for members over the next few days to help guide you through the new process.
You will also receive briefing information from the VMIA containing details on the scope of the changes, the new DBI process and the transitional arrangements during the initial implementation period.
To assist members in the meantime, HIA has prepared a Member Information Sheet covering a number of questions you may have. Click here to access the Information Sheet.
Should you have any further questions about the changes or the transitional arrangement, please feel free to contact HIA on 1300 650 620.
