ABCB Sanitary Facilities Calculator – Now Live
December 10, 2019
A common question HIA receives in the design & use of Class 2-9 buildings is - how many toilets, hand basins, accessible facilities, etc. do I need to provide for X number of people?
Unfortunately, the answer to this question is not always an easy answer - Anyone that has tried to use Table F2.3 of the BCA Volume One will agree!
To assist you to better understand and apply the sanitary and other facilities provisions, the ABCB have developed a "Sanitary Facilities Calculator" which helps to calculate this for you!
The calculator provides the required number of sanitary facilities including (where applicable) closet pans, wash basins, urinals, showers and baths based on building type and number of occupants. It also assists to calculate the required number of accessible unisex sanitary facilities.
Using the calculator is easy
Just select the building classification from the dropdown box and then enter the number of occupants the building is designed for. Based on this information, the calculator provides the required number of sanitary facilities including (where applicable) closet pans, wash basins, urinals, showers and baths.
By also entering the number of building levels and banks of toilets, the calculator will also assist to calculate the required number of accessible unisex sanitary facilities.
The calculator has supporting notes sourced from Part F2 that are provided to suit the building classification selected. A help guide is available in the calculator, and provides an example of how to use it.
The calculator is a MS Excel file created and designed for Excel 2013 for Windows 10.
The calculator and information on how to use it is on the ABCB website www.abcb.gov.au.
