Bushfire standard now available

April 08, 2020

HIA recently advised members that they will have easier access to the bushfire construction standard AS 3959 following an agreement by Standards Australia to waive the cost for access to the standard.

Australian Standard 3959:2018, Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas provides the technical design requirements for building homes in bushfire areas, along with the criteria to assess the bushfire risk of a property.

Details have now been released on how builders and homeowners can access AS 3959:2018 through its two distributor’s websites.

To access a PDF copy of the standard through SAI Global go to the AS 3959:2018 page and follow the steps on the right hand side where there is drop-down box saying, ‘Product Format’, please ensure you pick the ‘PDF – English – DRM’ option and then add to cart and follow prompts from there.

In coming weeks the standard will also be available through Techstreet:

HIA is pleased to see open access being provided to this standard. Its release will help thousands of people impacted by the recent bushfires move through the rebuilding process a little more smoothly and reduce the red tape involved in designing and building a home which needs to meet these requirements.
