FAQs for quoting and measuring in Greater Sydney

HIA understands that being able to attend an occupied home to quote for renovation work or visit an unoccupied site to quote and measure is critical to securing a pipeline of work into the future.

Quoting and measuring can be carried out at both occupied homes and unoccupied sites in Greater Sydney. However different rules apply to the areas of concern within Greater Sydney.

Rules that apply to people that live in an area of concern

Can I attend an unoccupied construction site outside of an area of concern?

 Yes, on the basis that you are an authorised construction worker and have complied with the vaccination requirements.

Can I attend an occupied home outside of an area of concern?

No. Currently those wishing to quote and measure for indoor or outdoor renovation work at an occupied home are not authorised workers and so you cannot leave the area of concern in which you live.

Can I attend an occupied home in the area of concern I live in to quote and measure for outdoor renovation work, for example a deck or pool?

Yes, subject to the limit of 5 workers outdoors on site at any one time.

Can I attend an occupied home in the area of concern I live in to quote and measure for indoor renovation work?

Only if the quoting and measuring is necessary to carry out urgent work. Urgent work is defined as work:

  • to ensure the health, safety or security of the place of residence or persons residing at the place of residence, or
  • because of an emergency.

Urgent work include work that is:

  • for the installation, maintenance or repair of an essential utility, including a water, gas, electricity, internet, television or telecommunications service, or
  • for fire protection and safety.

Rules that apply to people that live outside of an area of concern

Can I attend an occupied home in an area of concern to quote and measure for outdoor renovation work?

Yes. You can leave your home to attend to work that cannot be done from home, including a site located in an area of concern.

Can I attend an occupied home in an area of concern to quote and measure for indoor renovation work?

Only if the quoting and measuring is necessary to carry out urgent work. Urgent work is defined as work:

  • to ensure the health, safety or security of the place of residence or persons residing at the place of residence, or
  • because of an emergency.

Urgent work include work that is:

  • for the installation, maintenance or repair of an essential utility, including a water, gas, electricity, internet, television or telecommunications service, or
  • for fire protection and safety.
