Yesterday the Victorian Government announced a New Permit System for anyone wishing to enter Victoria including returning Victorian residents. From 5:59pm on 11 January, any person wishing to enter Victoria from anywhere in Australia will be required to obtain a permit. This does not apply to New South Wales border community residents.

The recent outbreak of COVID-19 in NSW has led to a number of changes to the NSW COVID-19 health and hygiene requirements.
A key change is the introduction of a mandatory requirement to wear a fitted face covering when indoors at certain pemises located in Greater Sydney (including Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains).

Following HIA’s urgent discussions the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) has now accepted that building permits can continue to be issued to Domestic Builder – Managers (DB-M) for all new and current major domestic building work.

The Government today introduced into Parliament proposed changes to industrial relations laws that will make three significant changes to the current laws if passed. It is proposed that casual work be defined as employment that is offered and accepted without any firm advance commitment that the work will continue indefinitely and will follow an agreed pattern of work.

Yesterday the Victorian Government made several announcements concerning the easing of restrictions across the state. Of most importance for the residential building industry were the changes to requirements for wearing face masks at work premises.
From 1 December 2020, members who operate their businesses using a DB-M or CDB-M registration or a Domestic Builder - Unlimited (DB-U or CDB-M) with a condition for ‘managing or arranging of domestic building work’ will no longer be able to obtain building permits.
