COVID-19: member update #6

While there were fewer announcements this week about COVID-19 changes and the pace of Government activity slowed a little, it is clear that members are working harder than ever to start and finish the projects on foot and to manage the business challenges that are emerging from declining customer activity.

With the Easter weekend starting tomorrow making this a short week I hope you will all have time to catch your breath over the next four days.

This alert provides a brief update on the JobKeeper scheme and outlines two new industry tools that have been released today in the Making space on site toolkit.

JobKeeper Wage Subsidy

The main event this week was the Government passing the JobKeeper legislation package late last night.

The JobKeeper package will provide assistance for many businesses but it is clear it will not work for every businesses.

HIA been in constant contact with the Government about how our industry will be able to qualify for the scheme and we are developing information to assist members provide the evidence necessary to meet the requirements.

The scheme is available for all businesses including sole-traders.

For those members that know you will be eligible now for the scheme, HIA encourages you to register. For those businesses that believe you will become eligible for the scheme in the next six months, we also recommend you register.

HIA has updated the information available online for members based on the legislation passed yesterday and we will continue to gather more information and share this as it comes to hand.

Making space on site: Site Induction Tool

The HIA Making space on site: Site Induction for COVID-19 was released today for anyone wanting to add a COVID-19 induction to your existing safety management system.

The site induction uses the HIA Safescan QR code to provide builders and trades with a contactless way to manage site inductions. Builders can access the QR code online and place this on site or in information sent to your contractors.

Contractors can scan the QR code and complete the site induction and return a copy to the builder for record keeping.

HIA has made the site induction tool available online at no cost to provide a simple tool for everyone in the industry.

Making space on site: Homeowner Guide

HIA has also released the Making space on site: homeowners guide. The Guide provides a way for builders to show your customers that building work can still proceed and that you are taking the steps needed to prevent COVID-19.

This Guide is aimed at customers already engaged with a builder or trade contractor to undertake home building work.

More Making space on site tools will be released shortly to support home builders keep their sites open and deliver new homes and renovation projects.
