COVID-19 lockdown - Greater Brisbane
March 28, 2021
The Queensland Government has today announced that the local council areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Redlands and Logan will enter a 3 day hard lockdown from 5:00pm today, Monday 29 March 2021 to 5:00pm on Thursday 1 April.
The lockdown rules apply to anyone who has been in the Greater Brisbane area since 20 March 2021, even if they have subsequently left the lockdown area.
The lockdown requires that all people stay at home except for specific circumstances including:
- to attend work or study if this can’t be done at home
- to buy essentials like groceries and medicine
- to look after the vulnerable
- to adhere with legal obligations
- exercise with one other person (not from their household).
During the lockdown period any person leaving their home in Queensland is required to carry a mask at all times.
Can Building Sites Stay Open?
Yes. As was the case during the lockdown period in March 2020 and January this year residential building work is an activity that can only be carried out on site and as such, building sites can remain open during this lockdown period.
Can workers cross the lockdown area boundaries?
Yes. Workers who live outside the lockdown area who are required to attend a building site within the lockdown area must:
- abide by the lockdown rules while on site (i.e. wear a mask at all times); and
- abide by the lockdown rules even when they return home.
Workers who live within the lockdown area who must attend a building site outside of the lockdown area must abide by the lockdown rules while on site.
What do you need to do while working on a building site?
You should continue to comply with all of the current COVID-19 health and hygiene requirements. This includes maintaining social distancing and limiting the number of people in indoor areas on a building site to ensure the 1 person per 4 square metre is adopted.
During the lockdown:
- It is mandatory for all workers in the lockdown area to wear a mask while indoors where social distancing is not possible.
- It is strongly recommended you wear a mask outdoors where social distancing is not possible.
Masks can be removed temporarily for eating and drinking and where other personal protective equipment is required to be worn on the face.
To assist members continue to comply with all COVID-19 health and hygiene requirements HIA’s Making Space on Site Industry Guidelines provide a useful list of actions to be followed.
Can Display Homes Stay Open?
