HIA launches 2021 Tasmanian election imperatives

April 12, 2021

Today HIA launched its 2021 Tasmanian election policy imperatives, Housing Tasmanians.

Housing Tasmanians focuses an incoming government on an agenda that supports the delivery of new housing and renovations. This includes the implementation of measures that:

  • support planning reform
  • reduce government levies and taxes on land and new homes
  • increase land supply and availability
  • stimulate home building
  • attract new workers and train our skilled workforce
  • boost infrastructure spending

The election announcement comes almost 12 months after COVID-19 threatened Tasmania’s growth. It is the housing industry that has rewarded government investment and stimulus by driving job creation, lifting confidence and setting the wheels in motion for a full economic recovery.

It is critical Tasmania’s leaders understand the continued social and economic opportunities that exist in supporting residential building over the next term of government and commit to policies that promote new and affordable housing supply.
