Victorian COVID-19 lockdown ends

February 17, 2021

Construction work can resume tomorrow

Today the Premier announced an end to Victoria’s 5 day lockdown and this means that from tomorrow all building and construction work can resume

While many restrictions will end at 11:59pm tonight, similar restrictions that were in place before the lockdown will resume.

HIA has worked with Government throughout this lockdown to ensure our industry could resume operations at the earliest possible time. HIA welcomes this announcement which will allow the residential building industry to resume operations.

What restrictions have ended?

  • Victorians will no longer be restricted to leaving home for the 4 permitted reasons; and
  • The 5km rule will no longer apply.

Can building sites re-open?

Yes.

Building work can resume tomorrow subject to COVID health and hygiene requirements and COVIDSafe plans.

The current capacity limit of 50% that applies to workers attending the office does not apply to building sites.

Can display homes and colour selections re-open?

Yes.

Display homes and colour selections can re-open tomorrow subject to:

  • The requirement to wear face masks indoors.
  • The one person per two square metres rule.
  • All other COVID health and hygiene requirements.
  • COVIDSafe plans.

Can manufacturing activities recommence?

Yes.

Manufacturing activity can resume tomorrow subject to:

  • The requirement to wear face masks indoors.
  • The one person per two square metres rule.
  • All other COVID health and hygiene requirements.
  • COVIDSafe plans.

When am I required to wear a facemask?

You must wear a facemask:

  • In all indoors settings, including at the office.
  • When outdoors and unable to socially distance.

Members must ensure that facemasks are worn when required unless an exemption applies.

Working in offices

Businesses with more than 40 workers will be able to have up to 50% of office-based workers return to the office subject to the one person per two square metres rule.

Businesses with fewer than 40 workers that ordinarily work at the office may have a maximum of 20 people return to the office.

Workers will also be required to continue working from home where reasonably practicable.

What are my ongoing COVID-19 obligations?

Businesses must continue to ensure:

  • Their COVIDSafe plan is relevant and up to date;
  • Workers are wearing a facemask while working indoors and outdoors when required;
  • Records of workers and visitors who attend the work premises for longer than 15 minutes are maintained.

HIA continues to actively engage with government to ensure the residential building industry remains open and will provide further information when available.
