Construction Apprenticeship

What's it all about?

This qualification provides an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations. The units of competency cover essential work health and safety requirements, the industrial and work organisation structure, communication skills, work planning, and basic use of tools and materials. The qualification is built around a basic construction project unit that integrates the skills and embeds the facets of employability skills in context.

On successful completion you will be issued with the nationally recognised qualification: CPC10111 Certificate I in Construction.

This training has been grouped into a series of short courses, which provide a progressive and practical learning experience. The short courses are:
  • Basic Workplace Skills
  • Construction Project
  • Using Construction Tools – Basics

Who would do this training?

This course is suitable for:
  • School leaver’s wishing to undertake pre-vocational training to provide some skills in general construction prior to choosing a trade or para-professional career path.
  • Workers or job seekers wishing to gain basic skills in the construction industry

What do I need before I start?

HIA will conduct a pre-enrolment review with you to make sure that this program is suitable for your needs, current skills and experience.

To start this program, you must have:
  • A good understanding of English reading and writing and numeracy
  • Suitable interpersonal and communication skills
The program will take 120 hours to complete. This may be delivered in 3 x 40 hour blocks or spread out over 15 weeks (8 hours per week).

Required resources

Participants are required to have a copy of the Pearson’s Basic Building and Construction Skill Participant Guide.

Nationally Recognised training details

CPC10111 Certificate I in Construction

On successful completion you will be issued with the nationally recognised qualification: CPC10111 Certificate I in Construction.

To achieve this qualification, you must demonstrate competency in:
  • 11 nationally recognised units of competency:
    • 8 core units [C]
    • 3 elective units [E]
