What's it all about?

This training program provides the skills and knowledge required to coordinate and maintain a WHS/OHS program in the building and construction industry.

On successful completion you will be issued with the Nationally Recognised qualification:

BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

This training has been grouped into a series of short courses, which provide a progressive and practical learning experience. The short courses are:

  • Understand WHS requirements
  • WHS Systems and Processes
  • WHS Emergency Procedures and Responses
  • Implement WHS Practices

Who would do this training?

Building and construction industry personnel employed in a work health and safety (WHS) role or who require knowledge in WHS as part of their role.

What do I need before I start?

HIA will conduct a pre-enrolment review with you to make sure that this program is suitable for your needs, current skills and experience.

  • Suitable level of English reading, writing and numeracy skills
  • The ability to research, access and interpret complex documents.


  • at least basic computer skills in spreadsheets, search engines and word processing

How long will it take?

The program could take you approximately 3-6 months to complete, depending on how the training is scheduled in your region. You will need to commit 10 days of face-to-face learning time for this qualification. Outside of this allocation of time, you will need to undertake self-directed learning through research, project work and assessment tasks.

Required resources

During this training, participants must have access to specific resources. Resources may include various Codes and Standards that are relevant to the subject matter. You may already have some or all of these resources, however if you were to purchase all of them the cost would be approximately $90.51. Your regional HIA Training Services staff can provide you with a list of these required resources and their indicative costs.
