South Australia's Serenity Homes was named the HIA Australian Specialised Housing winner following the virtual 2021 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards ceremony on 30 July.
Thoughtfully designed with state-of-the-art automation, this home was constructed to meet the evolving needs of the homeowner, who requires a wheelchair.
Before its construction, both the owner and builder spent considerable time refining the home's layout to accommodate all accessibility requirements needed to provide effortless independent living.
The home offers a gymnasium, indoor pool and spa for daily rehabilitation, while its integrated automation enables the owner to control the entire home from any room.
The judges commented on the home's impressive adaptability, as well as the design, which supports the homeowner's ability to live independently. This is for both now and into the future, as his requirements change or convert to a standard layout in the future.
HIA Managing Director Graham Wolfe said the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards recognise the best in Australia’s residential building industry.
“The workmanship of Award winners is exceptional; demonstrated in projects that push the boundaries in design and innovation,” commented Mr Wolfe.
The HIA Australian Specialised Housing category, partnered by Merlin Garage Door Openers, is for housing that is designed and built to meet the specific needs of individuals such as aged persons, retirement villages, accommodation for people with disabilities, student accommodation.
