2023 HIA Australian Specialised Housing

HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards

Winner: Alroe Constructions

Queensland’s Alroe Constructions was named the 2023 HIA Australian Specialised Housing winner for an impressive five-storey specialised housing development on the Gold Coast.

The development showcases true excellence in design and construction to improve the liveability of the occupants.

Purpose-built for high physical support tenants, this project combines great street appeal with the full range of accessibility solutions. The dwelling includes 10 National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) units, a carer’s unit, multipurpose consultation rooms, massage and therapy rooms as well as multiple recreational spaces to encourage socialisation, including a rooftop terrace.

The carefully planned units feature zero threshold doorways, generous living spaces and large balconies, all with stylish bathrooms and kitchens catering for high physical support. Incorporating a flexible design, Alroe Constructions has also ensured they are future-proofed for additional requirements as needed. Innovations include state-of-the-art automatic doors and fixtures with customisable, app-operated CBUS access controls.

This highly energy-efficient project showcases thoughtfulness in design and high-level finishes throughout.

The HIA Australian Specialised Housing category, partnered by Merlin Garage Door Openers, is for housing that is designed and built to meet the specific needs of individuals such as aged persons, retirement villages, accommodation for people with disabilities, student accommodation.

Winners were announced during the 2023 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards presentation on 20 May on Hamilton Island.
