Judging criteria

Projects will be judged according to:

Criteria Points
Third party certification
  • Evidence of energy efficiency certifications eg. NatHERS certificate, BASIX certificate, Green Building Council, Passive House certification, eTool, or other certification. More points will be awarded for third party certifications with robust quality assurance procedures.

Energy Saving Features
  • Intelligent automation of the home (battery storage, appliance shutdown, in-home displays and ‘smart’ devices)
  • Use of energy efficient heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC)
  • Use of energy efficient hot water and other hydraulic systems/pumps etc.
  • Use of low embodied energy materials and finishes

  • Resilience in relation to fire, blackout, wind events etc.
  • Broad market appeal

  • Detail of innovation or use of new technology in the design, construction or operation of the home. Include details on practicality of innovative practices and the ability to replicate this innovation in other housing projects.
