Multi Dwelling Development

The Stieglitz Shacks are two all-electric homes designed as independently functioning dwellings that share a coastal Tasmanian site and landscape. Built by Zanetto Builders, the project challenges the conventional approach of a single oversized home, instead delivering two small, considered residences with a combined footprint of just 172m². Sustainability is embedded throughout, with passive solar design, high-performance insulation, low-E double glazing, heat recovery ventilation and rainwater harvesting supporting year-round comfort and reduced resource consumption.

Low-carbon concrete, charred timber cladding and locally sourced materials further reduce environmental impact while enhancing durability in the coastal setting. Inspired by the traditional east coast shack, the dark-clad gabled forms sit comfortably within the landscape, demonstrating how efficient use of space, thoughtful design and high-performance construction can create homes that are both environmentally responsible and highly liveable.
