Register now for online training in Waterproofing changes and Livable Housing

The Queensland construction industry has exclusive access to subsidised NCC 2022 training courses. These fast-paced and informative 2 hour sessions will get you across the NCC 2022 amendments. Join us this July, August or September.

HIA’s NCC 2022 training in livable housing and waterproofing starts at just $20. All you need to do to qualify for this funding opportunity is supply your details and relevant documentation*. Get briefed on the changes as soon as possible by booking a virtual session today.

The building industry must be aware of NCC 2022 changes to Accessible (Livable) Housing Provisions and Waterproofing and how they have been adjusted for Queensland. These updates will have major impact on design and construction in the state from October. HIA's training sessions are a fast and easy way to ensure you comply with the new provisions.

*Documentation includes evidence of payslip, ABN/ACN, and/or QBCC licence for CSQ to verify eligibility.

Waterproofing Changes

This course will provide a detailed breakdown of the changes across:

  • NCC Volume One
  • NCC Volume Two and Housing Provisions
  • AS3740:2021 Waterproofing of internal wet areas
  • AS/NZS 3500.2 Sanitary plumbing requirements for installing branch drains in floor framing.

This includes:

  • clarifying application of internal and external waterproofing including to alfresco areas and balconies
  • extent of waterproofing required in shower areas
  • falls to floor wastes
  • acceptable substrates for walls and floors in wet areas
  • allowances for use of polished concrete
  • alternate waterproofing solutions
  • changes to wet area classification
  • understanding the new NCC 2022 drafting and restructure to ensure compliance
  • new figures and greater commentary on the use of strip drains and shower niches.

This course will also cover commonly asked questions pertaining to waterproofing and items commonly found in waterproofing inspections and compliance reports.

This course will provide a detailed breakdown of the new livable housing provisions, as well as a practical “how to guide” to ensure compliance. The course will cover: 

  • Step-free paths of travel into houses
  • Wider doorways
  • Wider hallways
  • Step free showers
  • Circulation spaces in front of toilets.

These new requirements will mean changes to many house designs and materials used commonly in houses and apartments.

Course attendees must meet the following criteria:

  • Has the right to work in Australia and;
  • Is the owner of an eligible Building and Construction Small Business or
  • Is an employee of an eligible Building and Construction Business who is directly involved the day to day running of the business (business with 20 or less employees that conducts building and construction work in the Queensland Building and Construction Industry and is based in Queensland).

And must not be:

  • An employee of any authority
  • Currently enrolled and participant in an Queensland secondary school program
  • A contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of an RTO
  • Previously funded under this program for the same contract term.

Evidence to be submitted during the registration process:

  • Payslip - including name of employer, employee, job title, duties undertaken
  • If small business owner - a copy of ABN/ACN registration
  • QBCC licence.
