This qualification provides the essential skills required to gain a trade in carpentry, covering work in both residential and commercial applications.
The units of competency cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as a specialist field of work.
The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.
This training program has been grouped into a series of short courses, which provide a progressive and practical learning experience. The short courses are:

Note: It is a requirement that participants have successfully completed the unit of competency: Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry - CPCCOHS2001A, before undertaking any of the following units:
All participants will be required to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy assessment before enrolment.
You will need to commit 520 hours of face-to-face learning time for this training. Contact your local HIA office to find out more information about delivery schedules.
Outside of this allocation of time, you will need to undertake self-directed learning through research, project work and assessment tasks.
