Fine Dining with Miele

Miele, a long-time partner of the HIA Awards and events have recently extended their significant support to the HIA Charitable Foundation.

By contributing a series of unique invite only fine-dining experiences at its state-of-the-art Miele Centers in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth, they’ve helped raise more than $40,000.

Simon Balzer, Miele’s head of project sales, introduced the dinner series – ‘A Taste of Vue de monde’ – which gave a number of builders the unique opportunity to experience celebrity chef Shannon Bennett’s Melbourne restaurant dining in their own states. Miele invested a significant amount in organising the dinners, and the company also generously donated one each of its new revolutionary washers and dryers to each state’s silent auction.

The series was highly successful, lifting the profile of the foundation, and inspiring those builders who attended to want to become involved again next year.

‘The dinners exceeded everyone’s expectations,’ Simon says. ‘The feedback has been one of genuine surprise and delight. I believe the diners were not expecting the level of detail, service and effort provided by both Miele and HIA... and it was one they felt privileged to share.’

Regional executive director of HIA Victoria, Gil King agrees. Six builders and their partners attended the Melbourne event, raising the most funding of all the state events.

‘The food and wine were excellent... and all cooked and prepared in front of us in the amazing Miele showroom,’ he says. Of the silent auctions, he says: ‘The chef’s dinner proved to be the most popular, as was a Bali villa holiday. The top-of-the-range Miele products were also snapped up.’

Regrettably, however, most of the diners had experienced the impact of depression and suicide among their workers and colleagues, and this ‘set a sombre mood, notwithstanding the great comradeship around the table’.

With Miele’s ongoing global initiative to be ‘closest to the consumer’, but also ‘respectful of the circumstances’, the dinner series was a good example of this principle in action, and HIA thanks Miele for its generous and innovative support.
