The clever engineering behind this Canberra bathroom saw it take out the award for 2019 HIA Australian Bathroom Design.

Winner: Archertec Interiors, Australian Capital Territory

In the presence of hundreds of industry leaders at the prestigious 2019 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards ceremony on 25 May in Perth, Canberra-based Archertec Interiors was announced as the winner of the 2019 HIA Australian Bathroom Design award.

The Bathroom Design category recognises excellence in design of a renovated or new residential project, with entries judged on design, innovation and flair.

Despite its moody palette of charcoal and onyx tones, the winning bathroom design is unexpectedly light and spacious thanks to large frosted glass panels, which provide a favourable balance of privacy and light transference.

The feature freestanding bath tub and matching basins have been crafted from Apasier Nero to complement the natural Arabescato marble vanity and cabinet tops.

With the mirrored cabinets suspended from above, the basins are accessible from either side of the floating vanity – a clever example of engineering that impressed the judges.

The ACT and Southern NSW region claimed three of the national awards this year, also taking home the Business Partner and Display Home categories.

The HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards are the ultimate platform to showcase the talents of the nation’s top builders and designers. Winners are selected from state-based finalists, with awards in 22 separate categories.
