2019 HIA Australian GreenSmart Professional

Winner: Oliver Steele, NSW

Oliver Steele of Steel Associates, winner of the 2019 HIA Australian GreenSmart Professional Award, trains everyone on his staff personally. This attention to detail ensures the quality output is unsurpassed, with the business using bespoke construction detail principles to demonstrate the possibilities in exceptional sustainability outcomes.

He hopes that delivering profitable and beautiful projects without compromising on sustainable practices within the frame of a conventional business model will encourage the industry to adopt sustainability as a driving business solution rather than an irritating compliance issue.

Armed with expertise that spans academia and trade, including a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) and a builder’s licence, Oliver has spent the past 20 years building his design and construction business.

With an aim of bridging the gap between a productive economy and a healthy environment, Oliver demonstrates his commitment to the principles adopted by GreenSmart Professionals with enthusiasm saying he is ‘delighted to be working at a time when political, economic and industry interests are shifting toward a workable future for life on earth’.

Judges were impressed by his ‘innovation and dedication to achieving the best building practice and systems to deliver a smart and sustainable housing option’.
