Winner: Rivergum Homes, South Australia

Rivergum Homes in South Australia was awarded the 2019 HIA Australian Townhouse/Villa of the Year for an airy, light-filled and modern property, announced at the 2019 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards on 25 May.

This year’s award winners were unveiled before hundreds of industry leaders at the prestigious awards ceremony held as the final night of the HIA 2019 National Conference in Perth.

The winning townhouse makes excellent use of the natural light afforded by the corner block, in addition to three-metre ceilings in the lower level, which ensures the property feels far larger inside than expected from the sub-divided land.

Catering to the modern trend of transitional living, shaker and bi-fold doors open the living room and kitchen to include the outdoor alfresco and landscaped barbeque area. Among the versatile light finishes, glimpses of dark grey and a Victorian ash staircase add depth to the aesthetic.

The HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards showcase the talents of the nation’s top builders and designers. Winners are selected from state-based finalists, with awards in 22 separate categories.

The Townhouse/Villa of the Year category is for an individual residential dwelling within a townhouse/villa development.
