2020 HIA Australian Renovation/Addition Project

Winner: Visioneer Builders Victoria

The team at Visioneer Builders exemplified attention to detail in this luxe three-storey renovation and addition, with the Victorian member taking out the national title of 2020 HIA Australian Renovation/Addition Project during the online 2020 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards ceremony on 29 May.

This exceptional restoration to an Italianate 1886 villa involved meticulous detailing and bespoke responsiveness to ensure authenticity remained in the original features.

A study of contrasts, luxurious finishes are incorporated into a new three-level addition constructed with black steel and complemented by glass, stone and timber accents. A lift connects to the basement housing an underground garage, bar, cellar and cinema.

Adding a touch of home for the clients, native New Zealand Rimu clads the ceiling in an adjoining pavilion, with the dining space also serving as a transparent thoroughfare between the tennis court and pool.

The HIA Australian Renovation/Addition Project, partnered by COLORBOND steel, is awarded to a project which involves structural building works on an existing individual house or residential building.

Often, as in this case, projects include both an extension and a renovation, while conversions of non-residential buildings into homes are also eligible for entry into this category.
