Camelot Homes from NSW has taken out the 2020 HIA Australian Spec Home award for a stunning hotel-inspired residence in Sydney, the accolade announced via a virtual presentation of the 2020 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards on 29 May.
The winning project achieves an exceptional amount of luxurious amenity for a narrow block, with every detail meticulously thought-out.
From the basement to the rooftop terrace, the home’s tri-level design includes multiple recreational areas for spacious contemporary living and cleverly maximises the full use of the complicated site, with the added bonus of a separate backyard studio to the rear.
Industrial aesthetics are found in the suspended steel staircase, and stainless steel kitchen island, beautifully off-set by a floating stone dining table and nearby marble fireplace.
Reclaimed bricks, some dating back to colonial Australia, were incorporated into the underground wine cellar, with bespoke features made by hand onsite from copper pipes and fittings.
NSW won three national housing awards in total, including the Apartment Complex, Outdoor Project and Spec Home categories.
The criteria for the Spec Home category, partnered by Stratco Australia, specifies a project must be an individual house, not built to a client's brief nor on display to the public, which is either sold off-plan or built for sale on completion or during construction.
The prestigious HIA awards program is the ultimate platform to showcase those who excel in building exceptional homes, kitchens and bathrooms, and continues to offer members the opportunity to receive public recognition for their hard work.
