Western Australia's Jaxon Construction was named the 2020 HIA Australian Specialised Housing winner, following the virtual 2020 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards ceremony on 29 May.
The HIA member's award-winning project Forrest Hall is a prestigious apartment complex, overlooking Swan River on the University of Western Australia campus.
The accommodation facility was designed to provide a home away from home for elite tertiary scholars conducting research on the ideas of tomorrow.
Sandy-hued blockwork gives the landmark building an enduring feel, with the sophisticated apartments, common areas and library ensuring this is not your typical student accommodation.
Some units are designed for family living, with moveable walls and plenty of storage.
A building management system also controls the energy usage of the low-maintenance building, which largely runs off its solar PV system.
The Specialised Housing category, partnered by HIA Insurance Services
, is for housing that is designed and built to meet the specific needs of individuals such as aged persons, retirement villages, accommodation for people with disabilities, student accommodation, or the like.
