Wollondale House – Goulburn NSW
Built in the beautiful new Platypus Banks estate in Goulburn in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Wollondale House takes in the sweeping 360 views and is a terrific mix of country style with all the modern features that would be expected including aspects such as under tile heating in the bathrooms, butler’s pantry and an ensuite with dual basins and twin shower heads.
This custom built project was constructed by Peter Grant Construction, and his clients for the project wanted an energy efficient home that would be able to provide a comfortable internal environment to withstand the cold winters encountered in winter in the Southern Tablelands and also equally the hot dry summers.
The house starts with a solar passive design and goes much further to include energy-efficient appliances, plantation shutters to the windows, LED lighting and a 22,000-litre on-site water tank to service the laundry, toilets and garden.
In particular the external wall system used incorporated a mix of cladding systems, and included the use of an NRG expanded polystyrene insulated wall panel and combined with the high performance wall sarking/building wrap used and the wall insulation the design well exceeded the minimum wall R-value requirements. In fact the total R-value for wall system provided a system that not just exceed the BCA’s requirements it provided an R-Value in excess of R7.0 and walking through the house the difference between the external temperate and that of the internal was significantly different.
