NSW Government response to building issues

August 04, 2019

The NSW Government is under pressure to implement reforms in the wake of recent build quality issues in Sydney apartments such as the Opal Tower and Mascot Tower. The dilemma they face is to restore the confidence of the general public in construction practices without inflicting a regulatory response that suppresses future development and adds significant red tape.

To outline their proposed reforms, the State Government released a discussion paper titled Building Stronger Foundations which, for the most part, focuses on implementing recommendations from the Shergold and Weir Building Confidence Report. HIA has made a detailed submission to the discussion paper which members can view.
