Regional update

June 02, 2019

The best of Perth has been on show recently as HIA members from across the country gathered in WA to partake in the three day HIA National Conference and celebrate the Australian Housing Awards.

Before the conference, HIA’s annual National Policy Congress (NPC) was held. This is an event where Presidents and Vice Presidents from all regions come to update some of HIA’s policy positions and to confirm the National President and Vice President for the next two years.

At the NPC we were pleased to confirm that Simon Norris from Queensland will take over as National President and Alwyn Even from WA will step into the role of National Vice President.

We also thanked the outgoing National President Pino Monaco, for his contribution to the association across the country, and we look forward to working with him as he continues his position on the National Board.

The annual D.R. Dossetor Address was also given during the week, and this year it was delivered by the Hunter’s very own Bill McDonald. HIA's annual D.R. Dossetor Address pays tribute to one of the fathers of the Australian housing industry and one of the key figures in the establishment of the HIA. This year’s address focussed on the importance of people, innovation and the future of our industry and was extremely well-received.

The three-day conference, which included Business Building Sessions, special guest speakers’ lunch and networking functions, was again a great success as members from across the country came together to discuss and learn about industry issues, forecast trends and challenges, upskill business knowledge and network.

The conference concluded with the HIA Australian Housing Awards. While we did not have any winners from the Hunter this year, members had a fantastic night.

See the winning projects from the night.

For those interested in entering our local awards, the 2019 HIA Hunter Housing Awards will close on the 14 June.

Finally, the location of the HIA 2020 National Conference was also announced. It will be held on the Gold Coast from the 28-30 May 2020 and I recommend members interested in attending to save the date.
