Changes to ATO Business Portal (Auskey)
February 18, 2020
From 27 March 2020 the Australian government is retiring the AUSkey system. This will mean that if you have been using AUSkey to lodge your Business Activity Statement you will need to use a new system to lodge your BAS for the first quarter of 2020.
The AUSkey system is a secure login that identifies a person when using online government services such as contact with the Australian Taxation Office. This system has been criticised and over the past year the government has been implementing a new system called myGovID and RAM (Relationship Authorisation Manager) for businesses to use online government services.
The myGovID system is different to the myGov system that you use for personal online interaction with the Commonwealth government agencies such as the ATO and Medicare.
If you currently use AUSkey, you can obtain more information about the new system from the Australian Business Register web page. You can also download an Auskey information sheet.
If you don’t use AUSkey, you may be contacted by your tax agent or accountant as they may need to confirm or update your details for their use of the new system. Your tax agent or accountant should be able to give you specific guidance on the new system as well.
