NCC 2019 Amendments Public Comment Draft
September 30, 2019
The ABCB have released for public comment a NCC draft containing proposed amendments for an NCC 2019 out-of-cycle amendment.
The main components to the amendment include:
Enhanced fire safety measures for early childhood centres in high-rise buildings, this will include sprinkler protection for the whole building and compartmentation requirements and/or direct egress requirements from the floor containing the childhood centre.
Clarification of concessions for 3 and 4 storey Class 2 and 3 buildings, to prescribe that the use of timber framing is permitted but the cladding on these buildings must be non-combustible and that timber or other combustible cladding would need to be subject to a Performance Solution and not acceptable as DTS.
Also a number of minor NCC 2019 corrections have also been included.
Public comment on the draft has only a short turnaround with comments due 11 October. It is intended that NCC 2019 Amendment 1 would take effect 1 June 2020.
