Congratulations to Premier Gladys Berejiklian

March 27, 2019

The NSW election resulted in the return of a majority coalition Government and the first female to be elected Premier.

Congratulations Premier Berejiklian.

Whilst it took a couple of days post the election to determine if a majority Government could be formed, it was ironic that the it was a National Party seat (Dubbo) that delivered the all-important 47th seat to the coalition after what was a routing of the National Party vote in regional NSW. The only National to defy the trend of 15%-20% swing against the party was their leader and Deputy Premier, John Barilaro. The Labor Party in NSW are in disarray and will looking for a new leader. Michael Daley stood down until after the Federal Election in May, under pressure to not be a negative distraction.

At the time of writing this, we await the announcement of Premier Berejiklian’s Cabinet. Then your team at HIA get down to the business of lobbying on the issues that matter for the residential construction sector with the new or reinstated ministerial team.

See HIA’s policy imperatives for NSW

The basic message is stay the course on infrastructure delivery and ensure that policies are adopted that support a strong residential construction sector.
