Interested in housing land supply?
April 06, 2020
All councils in NSW are required to prepare a Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS).
The purpose of the LSPS is to set out the 20-year vision for land use in the local area, the special character and values that are to be preserved and how change will be managed into the future. The LSPS sets priorities and actions for an area including housing targets, identification of housing land, provision for public space and protection of areas of special character.
In Greater Sydney the LSPS is to be aligned with the priorities of the Greater Sydney Region Plan and the District Plans. The Greater Sydney Commission (GSC) has been working with councils on a legislated assurance program to ensure line of sight with the Greater Sydney Region Plan and the relevant District Plan.
At the end of March, 28 of the Greater Sydney councils had made their LSPS, with 5 councils working with the GSC to finalise their plans. In addition 4 Regional LSPS had been made. To find out more please visit the Planning Portal.
Once an LSPS is made, it becomes a consideration for councils when preparing a Local Environmental Plan.
