Are you experiencing planning difficulties during Covid-19?

HIA is part of an industry group that meets weekly with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) to address significant planning issues arising during Covid-19. During these meetings HIA gives specific feedback on matters impacting the operation of the housing industry.
As a result of the meetings, DPIE is able to consider the issues arising for industry during Covid-19 and where possible make changes to the planning system.
Successful outcomes of the meetings to date have been:
- Announcement to fast-track project assessments, including DAs, to boost the construction pipeline
- Extended days for construction work to include weekends and public holidays allowing for social distancing measures on site without a loss of productivity or jobs
- DAs lodged electronically and made available for viewing online with physical copies of planning documents no longer required
- Planning and development assessment guideline prepared for councils to use during Covid-19
If any member has a significant concern with the operation of the planning system, such as a lack of response to DA assessments, difficulties arranging site inspections or any other unreasonable delay that is ‘due to COVID-19’, please let HIA know about it.
