Is the EKKA public holiday still on?

June 03, 2020

As this year’s Ekka Show has been cancelled the holiday has been shifted from Wednesday 12th August to Friday 14th August to create a one-off long weekend. It has also (for this year) been renamed to the ‘People’s Long Weekend’.

All other regional show holidays remain the same unless councils apply to the government for them to be shifted. The government has indicated that under the Public Holidays Act, the Minister has the power to appoint show holidays based on nominations from individual councils in line with their respective show holiday dates. Until any changes are made, show public holidays in all other areas will remain as they are.
