Does your company need a building licence?

May 19, 2019

Last year the Tasmanian government amended the Occupational Licensing Act to clarify that licensing a building company is not mandatory.

This legislation is helpful but leaves open some questions about when a building company should take the option of holding a building licence.

HIA has prepared guidance in an article in the next edition of the Building News magazine.

As a preview, a useful guide is that if a licensed builder is a director of the company, attends the building sites, is signing each contract, and is available to deal directly with each client on behalf of the company then a company license should not be needed.

If not, then it may be worth considering having the company licensed.
