HIA Webster Trucks Podcast with a President - Stuart Wilson
July 26, 2020
Stuart Wilson was the co-founder and Managing Director of Wilson Homes, one of Tasmania’s largest residential builders.
Now resigned from Wilson Homes, he has worked his entire career in the building industry and has been a member of the Housing Industry Association since 1989. Stuart has played an active role in the Tasmanian building industry, holding representation on numerous committees, forums and boards. After serving his apprenticeship with A.V. Jennings and progressing to Tasmanian Building Manager, Stuart established Wilson Homes with his wife and business partner, Susan in 1989.
One of his earlier roles as HIA’s representative on the Tasmanian Building & Construction Industry Training Board resulted in him advocating for financial assistance for housing education and training across the State. This also stimulated his interest and desire to represent industry more broadly.
As Tasmanian President of the Housing Industry Association for four (4) years 1999-2003, Stuart was actively involved during a period of radical change with the introduction of the GST and the collapse of HIH Insurance and it’s repercussions to the industry. He was influential in assisting the local industry to navigate and overcome these challenges.
Stuart joined HIA’s Board of Directors in 2004 and was the Vice President from 2009-2011 and National President of HIA from 2011-2013.
To this day Stuart remains actively involved with HIA and its members and is a regular at local meetings and events while continuing to undertake some small scale property development in his spare time with wife and business partner Sue.
