Issuing of a building permit number by the VBA

April 09, 2019

Reforms to Victoria’s building legislation will occur between 2016 and 2019, as part of the State Government’s building industry reforms program.

Victorian Building Authority is responsible for implementing these reforms as amendments to the Building Act, the Regulations and other relevant legislation commence.

The reforms are designed to achieve compliance and transparency in the building industry, as well as increased consumer protection, so that anyone engaging a building practitioner can do so with confidence.

Areas of the reform that could affect builders include:

  • payment of the building permit levy
  • cost of building work
  • reassessment of the levy where variations has resulted in an increase in the estimated cost of works.
